Thanks for your very thoughtful response. I’ve also read this theory as well and I find it very convincing. As it also says, it is often that sudden shock of disparity and the loss of pride that leads people look to reclaim what was lost. Revolution is also a bit of a social luxury — those who are starving or concerned daily with survival have little time to preoccupy themselves with thoughts of grand ordeals. The next meal is a far more immediate task.

I agree with you in regards to the internet, but there are also important differences to be aware of as we move forward.
